Human activity has been reducing or impacting herring spawning grounds for a long time. The construction of docks and harbours, houses, roads have reduced spawning habitat in a substantial way. Industrial activities like shipping, aquaculture, log sorting impacts spawning grounds directly and for longer periods of time. Many traditional spawning grounds have lost their function successively.
