Many ground fish species like halibut, lingcod (around 70% of the diet), and sculpins will consume herring of various sizes. Rockfish will eat all sizes of herring. The ecology group of the Herring School [link/photo] documented that rockfish eat the eggs off of the seaweed or even swallow attached to algae as a whole. Female rockfish especially seem to target the protein rich eggs. Eating the herring eggs likely helps them to boost their egg production.
